Born in 1953 in Kibbutz Lehavot Habashan, Major (Ret) Rami Sherman's life journey is defined by resilience, courage, and commitment to serving his country. In 1972, Rami answered the call to duty by enlisting in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), where his exceptional skills and leadership qualities led to his acceptance into the prestigious Sayeret Matkal, an elite unit renowned for its prowess in special operations. His time in the IDF was marked by dedication and excellence, culminating in a pivotal moment in Israel's history.
In 1976, when an Air France plane was hijacked and diverted to Entebbe, Uganda, Rami found himself at the forefront of one of the most daring rescue missions in modern military history. Serving as the Operations Officer of the unit under the command of the legendary Yonatan Netanyahu z”l, Rami played a critical role in preparing and executing the operation to free the hostages held captive by terrorists.
As part of the command group responsible for planning the operation, Rami demonstrated exceptional strategic acumen and leadership, guiding his fellow soldiers through meticulous preparations in the lead-up to the mission. When the time came for action, Rami fearlessly led a team of 33 officers and soldiers in the assault on the Entebbe terminal, successfully freeing the hostages and bringing them to safety.
